My solar filter appears to be wrinkled. Is it still safe to use?
My solar filter appears to be wrinkled. Is it still safe to use?
Yes. Solar filters do not have to be taut like a drumhead in order to provide a safe and sharp image. As a filter absorbs heat from the sun, the filter material may relax allowing wrinkles to form. If the filter material was stretched too tightly, it could run the risk of tears. As long as the filter has no pinholes or tears in the material, it is safe to use.
